Prayer Guide:  Reflection on Psalm 9

If you are able, take time to read through Psalm 9 aloud

Praise/Adoration.

Psalm 9:1-2

I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart;

I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.

I will be glad and exult in you;

I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.

Take some time to vocally praise God.  He is the only one worthy of our worship.

  • Lord, with my whole heart I want to thank you for ___________________.

  • As I think of the wonderful deeds that you have done in my life, I praise you for the time that you _______________________.

  • Response

Psalm 9:7-8

But the Lord sits enthroned forever;

he has established his throne for justice,

and he judges the world with righteousness;

he judges the peoples with uprightness.

Take some time to reflect on the following:

  • Because you are the righteous judge, I submit my unrighteous thoughts, words, and deeds before you in humble confession.  Specifically, I surrender _______________________.

What other person is God asking you to share this with

  • Sharing/Asking.

Psalm 9:9-10

The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed,

a stronghold in times of trouble.

And those who know your name put their trust in you,

for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.

Think of a name that God uses to describe himself.  How does the attribute of that name help when you come to him with your requests?

  • Because your name is _________________________, I will trust you for _________________________.

Take some time to pray for each other or anyone else that the Holy Spirit brings to your mind.

  • Lord I ask that you would be a stronghold for this other person _________________ as they encounter the trouble of _____________________.

    Praise/Readiness.

Psalm 9: 19-20

Arise, O Lord! Let not man prevail;

let the nations be judged before you!

Put them in fear, O Lord!

Let the nations know that they are but men Arise, O Lord, and help me to prevail over this area of temptation/evil _________________________.

Take a moment to listen to what God might be saying to you.  Is there anything that He is asking of you?

Take 30 seconds (or more) to speak out loud to God what you find most comforting or encouraging about who He says He is.

Connecting Challenges for the week

  • Ask the Holy Spirit to bring someone to mind to connect with.  Maybe it’s a phone call, a text, or other technology.  Maybe it’s to arrange a chat in the driveway.  Maybe it’s singing a serenade under the window of their bedroom :-)

  • Are you feeling disconnected from the church family at this time?  Do you receive the Weekly Connect email?  Have you been to the church YouTube page or to the Church FaceBook page?  Reach out today and keep in touch with what’s still happening
